While you pack
Save high-priority items as they go into a box. Use the same box name you write on the outside.
Find the right moving box before you open all of them.
A marker on cardboard helps when the box is in front of you. A searchable clue helps when you need the coffee maker and only remember that it went somewhere with the kitchen things.
Keep the box label. Add the memory clue.
StashPin does not replace the label on the box. It gives you a second way to find what the label cannot list.
Create a clear location such as “Kitchen — Box 08,” then add the individual items you are most likely to need before everything is unpacked. Include the words you might search later, not a perfect record of every fork or dish.

When boxes land
Update the location if a box moves to the garage, basement, bedroom, or a temporary stack.
As you unpack
Move an item to its new location in StashPin or delete the old record when you no longer need the clue.
Choose what deserves a record.
The best moving-box list is the one you can maintain during a busy day.
Prioritize items that are expensive, irreplaceable, needed early, or frustrating to hunt for. The charger for a work laptop deserves a clue. A box full of ordinary towels may be clear enough from its written label.
- Daily essentials you may need before the room is unpacked
- Documents, keys, remotes, cables, and small parts
- Items separated from their usual accessories
- Things going to storage instead of the new home
- Boxes whose contents span more than one room or category
A useful moving clue answers two questions: “What words will I search?” and “What detail will help me recognize the correct box?”
