Remember the safe place you chose for important documents.

A passport, certificate, warranty, or household record belongs somewhere secure. StashPin can hold the small location clue that helps you return to that place later.

StashPin details for a passport stored in a blue lockbox

Save enough to find it—not enough to recreate it.

A physical-document clue can stay simple and specific.

Use a general item name and the storage route you need: “Passport — blue lockbox, office cabinet, top shelf.” The goal is to find the physical document, not to copy sensitive numbers or the full contents into a note.

Treat the StashPin record as a signpost. Avoid putting passwords, account credentials, identification numbers, or other secrets in the clue.

Good candidates for a location clue.

Focus on papers that are important, rarely used, or stored away from everyday files.

Passports — Blue lockbox, office cabinet
Home warranty papers — Property binder, den shelf
Appliance receipts — Kitchen records folder
Original certificates — Document case, closet shelf

Use privacy-aware clues.

StashPin is local-first, but the details you enter still deserve care.

  • Name the category, not every secret. “Insurance folder” can be enough.
  • Photograph the container when useful. A selected photo of the correct binder or box may be safer and more helpful than a picture of the document itself.
  • Review exports before sharing them. Backups and exported details are created or shared only when you initiate those actions.
  • Update the location after access. If a document goes back to a different shelf or case, save the new clue.

StashPin does not use accounts, in-app advertising, analytics, or tracking. A local copy stays on your device. If you opt in to Personal iCloud Sync with Stash Pin Unlimited, Personal content is also stored in your private Apple CloudKit database.

A short document routine.

1

Choose the secure location

Put the physical document where it belongs before creating the clue.

2

Save a minimal route

Name the item or category, then the room, container, and shelf you need.

3

Keep it current

Update the location whenever the document is returned somewhere new.

Keep the document secure. Keep the route handy.
