StashPin is local-first. A local copy stays on your iPhone, and optional Personal iCloud Sync uses your private Apple CloudKit database. The app does not include an account, in-app advertising, analytics, or tracking.
What “local-first” means in StashPin.
The app is built around information you keep on your device.
StashPin stores the item names, locations, notes, tags, alternate names, flags, movement history, app settings, and backups it uses locally on your iPhone. When you choose photos through the system photo picker, StashPin copies those selected photos into local app storage so they can appear with saved items and locations.
- No StashPin account to create or maintain

You decide when data leaves the app.
Backups, exports, and sharing are actions you initiate.
StashPin can create backup files and export or share item details through iOS sharing tools. Depending on what you choose, those files can include item names, locations, notes, tags, dates, privacy flags, and selected photos.
A local-first app still needs a backup plan. Create a backup when it matters, choose the destination deliberately, and treat the exported file according to the information it contains.
You are responsible for where you save or send exported backup files. StashPin does not operate a developer-hosted service that receives them.

Privacy-first describes how StashPin is designed; it does not replace device security or careful sharing.
- Protect the iPhone itself. Local app data is still on a physical device you control.
- Use minimal clues for sensitive belongings. A route to a document can be useful without storing its identification number.
- Review export choices. Files sent through the share sheet leave the app under the destination you choose.
- Understand purchases. Optional Stash Pin Unlimited purchases are handled by Apple's in-app purchase system; the app checks the entitlement on device.
